Brian Carey

Foley Hoag Partner - Boston, Washington, D.C.

Brian Carey’s legal practice focuses on advising a wide range of clients on federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting the life sciences and health care sectors. He primarily advises biotechnology, medical device companies, health care providers, medical trade associations and private equity investors. 

His work with biopharma and medical technology companies includes advice on Medicare coverage and payment, and food and drug approval issues for innovative technologies. He regularly represents clients in matters before the Congress, Department of Health and Human Services, and federal agencies.

In recent years, Brian has been counseling clients on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. 


Hannah E. Murphy

Executive Director at The Coalition for 21st Century Medicine

Hannah Murphy joined the Coalition for 21st Century Medicine as its first Executive Director in October of 2017. Prior to joining the Coalition, Hannah was a Government Affairs Consultant at the University of California, San Francisco and spent nearly six years working in the United States House of Representatives, directing healthcare policy for a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over drug and device regulation and public health.

Hannah was instrumental in the drafting and passage of the Strengthening Public Health Emergency Response Act [Public Law No: 114-255], which improves U.S. biodefense and preparedness for chemical, radiological, biological, and nuclear threats.



Vice President, BGR Group, Government Affairs

John Stone joined the BGR Group after spending nearly seven years with the House Energy and Commerce Committee (E&C), first as a Counsel on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee and then as a Senior Counsel on the Health Subcommittee primarily handling issues under the jurisdiction of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). At BGR, he will continue helping FDA-regulated clients navigate congressional and administration policy development processes as a member of BGR’s Health & Lifesciences practice. Prior to joining the Committee in February 2011, John spent two years in the Washington office of Sanofi. He received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and his law degree from American University in Washington, D.C. He resides in Alexandria, VA, with his wife.
